Amber Portwood

’s daughter,

Leah Shirley

, is finally making contact with her — but it’s probably not the message Portwood hoped to get.

“This isn’t intended to cause you pain,” Shirley messages her mom in an forthcoming episode.

But I want to make clear that over all these years, the choice not to be in a relationship with you has always been mine, and no one else has had an influence on this decision.

Shirley mentions that ” recent online actions” have led her to a point where she needs to “address this” to establish a boundary with Portwood.

The text message follows closely after Shirley
sharing insights into her relationship
along with her distant mother to

Catelynn Lowell

and
Maci Bookout
On the episode from May 1st of the program.

Shirley informed Lowell and Bookout that she had “given up” on having a relationship with Portwood because of her unreliable presence in Shirley’s life and because she has blamed her father.
Gary Shirley
, due to their strained relationship. She mentioned she had not seen Amber in nine months, and apart from when Amber contacted her following Leah’s diagnosis of asthma, Amber had made no effort to reach out at all.

“Maci and I have informed her that if she wishes to establish a relationship with you, she must begin demonstrating more consistency,” Catelynn explained to Leah, recognizing that although she and Maci are friends with Amber, they understand her challenges when it comes to parenting responsibilities.

Leah mentioned it feels “overwhelming” to have Amber enter and exit her life frequently, only to act as though “everything is perfect” whenever she shows up.

Leah explained further, saying that her loved one claims they care but doesn’t follow through with actions. She described this as “inauthentic.” For instance, there’s no communication via texts or meet-ups, yet when they finally get together — particularly because someone might be filming them — they attempt to appear as though they’re the perfect parent.

She mentioned that she “doesn’t hate” her mother but is handling her “own issues.”

She mentioned that Gary has persistently encouraged Leah to maintain a connection with Amber, including urging Leah to extend an invitation to her birthday celebration — however, Amber ultimately did not attend.

Catelynn said it was “significant” to witness Leah establishing limits to safeguard her “mental well-being and tranquility” at such an early age.

Apart from stating on a TikTok Live that she had been
forced out of Leah’s life
, Amber went as far as accusing Gary of
sexual assault
in December 2024 on the platform.

“She revealed during a TikTok Live, ‘You’re a rapist,’” she said. “‘You’re fortunate to have our daughter. If you decide to confront me over this, remember that I’ve never disclosed this to anyone—not even once. For 17 long years, I stayed silent. Despite going through all sorts of struggles, I managed to keep this hidden. Keep in mind that others were aware of what happened.’”
