Utah’s quarterback, Cam Rising, is retiring from playing football, but he isn’t completely stepping away from the sport.

Rising, who is 25 years old, revealed via social media on Wednesday his decision to retire from football due to health concerns following a hand injury sustained during a match against Baylor in September.

Because of an injury I sustained during the Baylor game, both orthopedic doctors have informed me that I won’t be able to play football again,” stated Rising. “I plan to seek a third medical opinion and proceed with the suggested surgery. I’ll keep working on my rehabilitation and doing everything possible to recover. However, for now, I am reluctantly compelled to medically retire from the sport I adore.

My reason for playing has always been my family. My teammates have always felt like siblings to me, and they always will. Thanks to each of you for continually motivating me to get better and for making the game so much fun. To the coaching staff, thanks for steering me toward becoming a finer person and a more skilled athlete. Coach Ludwig, gratitude for transforming me into someone passionate about football and teaching me how to honor the sport properly. Finally, heartfelt thanks go out to every fan and supporter who stood behind me during my entire career. Because of your support, those moments were truly unforgettable.

Although Rising may not take the field for Utah again, he will transition to coaching at his former high school, Newbury Park, where he will serve as the offensive coordinator.

Rising played as a starter for three years at a California high school between 2015 and 2017 prior to his initial collegiate campaign at the University of Texas.

The player, who was 25 years old, participated in a total of 30 games while with Utah and guided the team to Pac-12 titles in both 2021 and 2022.

However, injuries limited his playing time on the field, and during last season, he managed to play in only three games.
