KENNER, La. (WVUE) – Authorities are seeking a woman who allegedly left her two small children unattended in a running car outside a Kenner Target store before departing from the scene with the children still inside the vehicle.

According to Kenner police, Brandi Fobbs, who is 40 years old and also goes by the name Brandi Williams, faces several charges. These include two counts of child abandonment, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and committing a hit-and-run offense.

Police stated they went to the Target parking area following a report from someone who saw a 1-year-old and an 8-year-old unattended in a running Buick. The vehicle was obstructing handicapped spots, lacked a license plate, and did not have any car seats installed. Officers mentioned that the kids were pushing buttons within the car, activating hazard lights, and even accelerating the engine.

A female came forward stating she was their mother, however, she provided law enforcement with an alias and mentioned her entry into the place was solely for price verification.

While authorities were still trying to determine who she was, the woman leaped back into the car, took off with the kids inside, and collided with another vehicle at the intersection of 32nd Street and Williams Boulevard.

Following the accident, authorities claim Fobbs proceeded to drive eastward onto the highway.

Since the kids weren’t wearing seat belts, law enforcement decided against chasing the escaping vehicle.

Later, investigators pinpointed the suspect, who last resided at an address within the 500 block of St. Mary Street in New Orleans.

The video recordings indicate that Fobbs spent approximately 30 minutes within the Target store prior to heading back to the car.

The authorities are requesting that anybody who spots Fobbs or has information about her location contact the Kenner Police at (504) 712-2200 or reach out to Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111. Information provided may remain confidential.
