Montreal under a severe thunderstorm watch all day

Posted on

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Montréal Island area late this morning until early evening.

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. There is also a risk of a tornado.

Water activities could be hazardous because of sudden, violent wind gusts on water bodies, the weather agency warns.

Power disruptions may occur locally as well as harm to rooftops, fences, tree limbs, or flimsy structures.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are put into effect when circumstances suggest that strong storms with potential to generate destructive hail, winds, or precipitation might form.

People are advised to keep an eye on alerts and weather predictions provided by Environment Canada.

The meteorological forecast predicts showers or thunderstorms starting mid-morning, with fog patches clearing up during the early hours of the day.

The peak temperature should reach 23 degrees, accompanied by a humidex of 28 and a moderate UV index of 5.
