During his time as captain, the previous leader spearheaded a fitness overhaul in Indian cricket and put together an intimidating fast-bowling lineup for Test matches. Additionally, within the IPL, he mentored several players, boosting their morale when they were struggling to help them through those difficult periods.

Chanderpal, Virat Kohli’s father, disclosed that Kohli backed his son after he signed with the team during the previous season. Upon joining RCB, Dayal faced significant stress due to events from his final outing with GT, where he conceded five successive sixes to Rinku Singh.

Before linking up with RCB, the southpaw fast bowler had been experiencing a difficult period, as he frequently mentioned. His father also disclosed how Kohli assisted him in overcoming this challenge by demonstrating confidence in him.

“Virat Kohli has been very supportive. Whenever Yash joined RCB, Virat frequently invited him to his room—or at times, went to Yash’s room himself. They talked about this starting from 2024, and Virat shared an important message: ‘Work tirelessly, stir things up. I’m here for you; don’t stress. Keep pushing yourself without stopping. It’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them and move ahead.’ Under Virat’s guidance, he has gained significant independence and transformed into a bold player,” said Chanderpal Dayal to The Times of India.

Since joining RCB, Dayal has turned things around and was among the trio of players kept on the team before this season began. As a left-arm fast bowler, he has thrived as an end-game specialist, helping secure key victories for his side.

Last season, he played an essential role in helping Royal Challengers Bangalore make it to the playoffs thanks to his exceptional finishing skills during a crucial game against CSK where he secured victory under pressure. In addition, he successfully limited MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja from scoring heavily when defending 17 runs. On Saturday, history seemed set to repeat itself as he faced similar circumstances—this time needing to protect only 15 runs against the formidable duo of CSK once again. Maintaining consistency, he repeated his earlier feat by outplaying Dhoni mid-over before guiding RCB towards their target.

Chanderpal conveyed his thanks to Kohli for extending assistance to his son at a juncture where numerous cricket players struggled to recover.

“I have witnessed numerous cricketers crumbling under pressure, particularly the bowlers; however, Virat has brought them together using his own efforts,” Chandrapal concluded.
