The spouse of a British lady
killed by stabbing in a village in France
expressed his surprise following law enforcement’s suggestion that a relationship with a nearby individual might have served as motivation.
Alan Carter, aged 65, stated that the police inquiry into the demise of his spouse of three decades, Karen Carter, suggested “a relationship I was reluctant to acknowledge.”
Ms. Carter was discovered near death in her driveway due to stab wounds on April 29th, following an evening wine tasting event in Trémolat, located in the Dordogne region.
A statement from French investigators noted: “The inquiry is centered around individuals who may have targeted the victim or the pair she constituted with her companion, both of whom were highly engaged within the local social and community networks.”
Mr. Carter, residing in
South Africa
and dedicated part of his time to
France
, told
The Times
that the police statement had compounded his grief and that of their children.
“I couldn’t have anticipated thatKaren would get entangled in this so-called love triangle, which ultimately led to her murder inFrance,” he stated.
According to reports, Ms. Carter operated a café in the village alongside Jean-François Guerrier, a 74-year-old retired businessman who volunteered his services. She resided in France and handled management of two vacation properties after first traveling to the country in 2009.
At some point, she managed a lifestyle blog for women over 50 titled
La Vie est Belle
“Life is Beautiful.” She was also a key member of the Queens of Football (Reines du Foot) squad, which concluded an expedition to South Africa earlier in April.
Last week, a resident of Trémolat stated: “Everybody is utterly shocked. Ms. Carter was a charming and dynamic individual who got along with everyone.”
“We spotted emergency vehicles in the village, followed by numerous police cars, and subsequently, the region surrounding her home was sealed off,” stated the local inhabitant, requesting anonymity for personal security concerns.
No one can comprehend how something like this could occur in such a tranquil location. Everyone here has started locking their doors out of concern. This situation is extremely troubling.
The Dordogne is a region in France that attracts many British visitors, as well as those who own holiday homes and retirees living abroad.
In February, the bodies of Andrew and Dawn Searle, an English couple from Britain who had formerly resided in East Lothian, Scotland, were discovered deceased at their residence in the southwestern hamlet of Les Peques, located north of Toulouse.
