It’s been a while.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a playoff position they haven’t found themselves in for 62 years, dating back to 1963.

Their latest feat was a thrilling 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night in the East’s second round.

With the victory, the Maple Leafs take a 2-0 series lead, just like they did in the last round against the Ottawa Senators.

According to the NHL
, it’s the first time the Leafs have led back-to-back playoff series 2-0 since 1963.

The series is far from over.

In the first round, Toronto went up 3-0 on Ottawa before only winning the series in six games.

The Panthers are the defending Stanley Cup champions and won’t be going down easily.

However, the Maple Leafs demonstrated their resilience on Wednesday evening during Game 2.

The Panthers took a lead of 1-0 followed by 2-1. However, Max Pacioretty and William Nylander scored to tie the game with equalizing goals.

Max Domi gave Toronto the lead late in the second, but Florida equalized at 3-3 with a goal at 5:33 of the third period.

In merely 17 seconds, Mitch Marner scored the go-ahead goal after the Panthers had equalized the match.

Now, Toronto aims to create additional history by advancing further into the playoffs.
