Small Business Success Story: Meet Chez Maryse

Tasting the refined essence of French gastronomy no longer demands a journey abroad.

French culture has been part of my upbringing,” explains owner Xiamy Ly-Yang. “The language, the bread—these have all been integral parts of my life. My aim was simply to bring some elements of my youth back into this place.

Whether it’s the atmosphere or the delicious meals, Ly-Yang is introducing the essence of Southern France right to your doorstep.

She mentioned that Chef enjoys cooking and aims to infuse genuine flavors from his hometown of Bordeaux, where he grew up.

Situated at the intersection of McKinley and Fine avenues in the eastern-central part of Fresno, Chez Maryse offers an array of French pastries, croissants, as well as breakfast and lunch options, complemented by various espresso beverages.

Crepes are high on the list of customer favorites.

“The crepes come with ham, cheese and eggs, or they come with salmon, chicken or steak,” Ly-Yang said.

Inspired by time in the kitchen with his father and grandmother, you can see chef Anthony Garrido’s artistry and attention to detail on display.

He stated, ‘We completely avoid using artificial flavors and opt solely for fresh fruits instead.’

By experimenting with different flavors and what’s in season, Garrido creates a unique culinary experience daily.

Packed with taste, the entremets will make you want seconds.

Ly-Yang also manages the nearby nonprofit organization, assisting adults with disabilities in securing jobs.

Named after the woman she calls her second mother, she opened Chez Maryse to offer work to her clients.

The plan is to expand to the neighboring space and launch a dinner service by the end of the year.

Xiamy says that is her opportunity to create more shifts for clients that she helps.
