SRH Risk Playoff Exit as Match Looms Without a Result

Posted on

The Delhi Capitals bounced back from a precarious position of 29/5 and later 62/6 to score 134 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad on Monday night. Their recovery was largely due to Ashutosh Sharma’s knock of 41 off 26 balls and Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 41. Nevertheless, intense rainfall began right after the conclusion of the first innings.

Should the game get canceled due to rain, Pat Cummins’ team, SRH, will lose their chance to make it into the playoff competition.

The rain continues to pour heavily at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The whole field is inundated.

The game will similarly influence the IPL 2025 playoff prospects for Delhi Capitals, who presently hold the fifth position in the IPL 2025 table with 12 points after playing 10 matches.

Previously, after choosing to bat first, SRH put up a strong bowling performance that led to Delhi Capitals being limited to 133/7.

Captain Pat Cummins took control with a spectacular three-wicket haul during the powerplay, tearing apart the DC top order.

Cummins began the game with an impressive opening salvo, dismissing Karun Nair right off his first ball. The delivery mirrored traditional Test cricket: a good-length pitch, slight away-seam movement, and unexpected bounce. Nair cautiously attempted to play it but ended up edging it towards Ishan Kishan, who took the catch standing in as wicketkeeper instead of Heinrich Klaassen.

In Cummins’ subsequent over, he adeptly modified his lengths upon noticing Faf du Plessis coming down the wicket. This tactical move led to an edged bat from du Plessis, which was cheerfully taken by Kishan. At this point, the Capitals had reached 6/2 off just 2.1 overs.

The captain from SRH maintained constant pressure with his bowling, capitalizing effectively on the additional bounce and inconsistent speed of the wicket. During his third over, Cummins dismissed Abhishek Porel with what seemed like an unremarkable delivery aimed at the pads. However, the ball slowed down upon hitting the ground, causing a leading edge due to Porel’s attempt to flick; this was easily caught by Kishan as he ran toward square leg—adding another capture to his tally for the night.

Who’s that IPL player?

Even though Tristan Stubbs (41 not out) and pinch-hitter Ashutosh Sharma (41 off 26) mounted a brief counterattack with their 66-run partnership towards the end, the initial setbacks were too significant for Delhi to recover from.

Jaydev Unadkat’s precise bowling spell (1/13) along with a wicket from Harshal Patel put more pressure on the opposition. However, Cummins was the star performer with impressive figures of 3/19.
