Last season, the St. John’s Red Storm rose to the summit of the Big East standings, clinching the conference tournament championship with head coach Rick Pitino at the helm.

Pitino steered St. John’s to become a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, leading several of the most skilled players in the league, including RJ Luis Jr., ZUBY EjioFOR, and KadARY Richmond.

Following the season during which the Red Storm bowed out in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, several St. John’s players received recognition at a program awards ceremony.

Richmond, who was participating in his inaugural season with Pitino, was designated as the team’s Most Valuable Player.

The St. John’s men’s basketball team officially announced via their social media page, ‘Our MVP.’ Congratulations go out to Kadary Richmond for receiving the Christian L. Thomsen Memorial Award! This accolade recognizes the team’s most invaluable player.

Even though St. John’s standout player RJ Luis Jr. secured the Big East Player of the Year award, the team referred to Richmond as their “MVP.”

During his debut season with Rick Pitino and the St. John’s Red Storm, Richmond averaged 12.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game.

Before playing for St. John’s, Richmond spent three seasons at Seton Hall and one season at Syracuse.

Over the span of his five-year collegiate basketball career, Richmond tallied an average of 11.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per contest.

While he awarded the MVP award, Zuby Ejiofor won the Lawrence R. Thomsen Memorial Award, given to the Most Improved Player of the Year. Ejiofor also won the
John DaSilva Memorial Award
awarded to a “student-athlete who demonstrates bravery, perseverance, and strength of character.”
