WASHINGTON, May 7 (Yonhap) — The United States has denounced North Korea’s ballistic missile tests and urged the obstinate government to cease all such “illegal” and “disruptive” actions, according to statements made by the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command on Wednesday.

The command issued a statement shortly after Pyongyang fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea in its first such launch since March.

“The command acknowledged the DPRK’s repeated ballistic missile tests and stated they are actively conferring with South Korea, Japan, along with other allied nations in the region.” The acronym DPRK stands for the country’s formal title, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

“The United States denounces these actions and urges the DPRK to avoid engaging in any additional illegal and disruptive behavior,” the statement continued.

The commander stated that they continue to keep an eye on the situation, emphasizing once again that America’s dedication to defending South Korea and Japan remains “unshakeable.”
