ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) — The ImpactLife organization and the Theta Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity are organizing a blood drive on Saturday, May 10, in St. Peters to support individuals impacted by sickle cell anemia.

The blood drive organized by Dr. Charles Drew will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. Peters Donor Center situated at 4891 Mexico Road.

Brothers from the fraternity plan to donate all day and are urging members of the community to contribute as well. The blood collected during this event offers crucial assistance to individuals impacted by sickle cell disorder, a condition that reportedly influences approximately 1 out of every 265 births among African Americans, according to health authorities.

The organizers are urging African American individuals to participate as donors. They explain that although ethnicity doesn’t affect the compatibility of blood in general donations, certain rare blood types required for specific medical treatments occur more frequently within the African American community.
