Farmers Unite: “Blessing of the Balers” Celebrates Harvest at State Capitol

(WHTM) — Agriculture is a significant industry in Pennsylvania, yet adverse weather conditions and faulty machinery can destroy an entire farming season. Therefore, today, several farmers were granted a special blessing.

Farmers arrived at the State Capitol carrying parts of their machinery for the “Blessing of the Balers.” This ceremony symbolizes the hope for a successful farming season ahead.

“We place our trust in farming for all the essentials of life, and similarly, we must believe in our machinery and the tasks at hand,” stated Russell Redding, the Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture.

“Another thing about our farmers, they spend 50% of the time praying for rain and the other 50% praying for sunshine,” said Rep. Bud Cook (R-Greene/Washington counties)

Sure enough, it went from dry to downpour in less than a minute. Most farmers couldn’t bring their entire baler, so they brought the hitch pins, which connect equipment to the balers.
