MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) — A competitive event for children is back as part of a Marquette County race, this time featuring a dedicated youth run.
The
Dead Carp
provides either a 20K run or a 5K walk/run for adults, along with a one-mile race for children.
The Little Carp is a half-mile out-and-back race designed for children under 12 years old. The young participants run from South Beach toward the Carp River and then return back.
At the finish line, they were greeted by the cheering crowd, a medal and some fruit snacks.
Paige Du Bois, who co-owns the Queen City Running Company, states that running helps children learn how to challenge themselves.
A multitude of sports emphasize teamwork, but this one highlights an additional individual sport that lasts a lifetime. Parents have the opportunity to participate as well—running alongside their children—and witness both themselves and their kids achieving their objectives together,” explained Du Bois. “I believe it’s a highly enriching experience that encourages youngsters to be active and appreciate a wonderful day outdoors.
The adult races begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday for the 20K, followed by the 5K run/walk at 9:45 a.m.
