If a new tax rate were introduced at the same millage level, it might still result in higher costs for homeowners—since this new levy would be calculated using updated home valuations. In contrast, the present levy relies on assessments from 2007, which means those whose homes have appreciated in value since then would face greater expenses.

The proposed 10-year tax will fund Metropark operations. According to a parks system spokesperson who spoke to 13 Action News recently, maintaining daily functions at the 19 regional Metroparks has become pricier, particularly due to a 62% rise in visitors over the past seven years as reported by park authorities.
