A
study
by the Universities of
Surrey
and
Essex
discovered that genetics have a substantial impact on determining when
babies
start walking. - Scientists pinpointed 11 genetic markers affecting this developmental stage, which account for approximately 25 percent of the variance in walking ages.
- Although many infants begin walking within the range of 8 to 24 months, a somewhat delayed onset doesn’t always warrant worry.
-
These genes are associated with brain development as well, indicating that children who start walking at a later age have a genetic link to greater educational achievement and a reduced likelihood of encountering developmental issues.
