Woolworths
has faced criticism after eliminating a beloved discount initiative, leading devoted customers to contemplate terminating their memberships.

Starting from June 1st, Everyday Extra members will not have access to a ten percent discount on one Big W purchase each month anymore.

Customers were stunned when a member posted an image showing that the discount would stop being valid starting from May through their Everyday Rewards application.

‘I would not have spotted it without your mention,’ a customer commented on the post within the Everyday Rewards Discount group.

Members can
Access Woolworths Rewards without charge; however, Everyday Extra rewards come with a price tag of $7 monthly or $70 annually.

Several customers declared they would terminate their memberships because the advantages no longer outweighed the price of the well-liked subscription service.

“Hopefully, everybody will cancel their memberships because of this… It’s not worth it anymore,” one person commented.

“I shop at BIG W for these discounts. However, now I’ll skip it since Kmart is more convenient,” another person commented.

Woolworths formally
made the announcement on Wednesday.

“We wanted to inform you that starting Sunday, June 1, 2025, the BIG W monthly ten percent discount will no longer be included as one of the Everyday Extra perks,” stated an email sent to customers.

The news hit hard for customers who rely on their memberships to manage large holiday purchases during Christmas and Easter seasons.

One shopper commented, “This was fantastic during Christmas, but I suppose it’s now just a box of chocolates for everybody.”

A representative from Everyday Rewards informed Daily Mail Australia that yearly members have the option to ask for an instant termination of their subscriptions along with a prorated reimbursement.

Annual subscribers will receive a prorated refund for any unutilized portion based on the initial yearly payment. Monthly subscribers have the option to cancel before the changes take effect on June 1st.

A customer mentioned their intention to sign up for the Coles Plus program as an alternative.

‘[I] have been getting good offers from Coles and am going to try theirs for a year. I was only thinking of staying at Woolies because we got the monthly discount at BIG W too,’ they said.

A representative from the Woolworths Group stated that most of the discounts obtained via the program were used at Woolworths instead of BIG W, noting that the store will keep concentrating on maintaining affordable prices.

In recent years, BIG W has concentrated on providing greater value to their customers daily.
lowering costs on myriad items throughout their lineup and maintaining affordable pricing
,’ the spokesperson said.

‘For example, 80 per cent of BIG W’s clothing range is now under $20 and 50 per cent of BIG W’s home range is under $20.’

Instead of the Everyday Extra discount, the Woolworths Group plans to launch exclusive monthly offers for subscribers at BIG W starting June 1st.

The spokesperson further stated, “We will keep enhancing the Everyday Extra program to provide members with fresh chances to both earn and save.”

‘Daily Extras continues to offer excellent benefits to members, including a 10 percent discount on one purchase each month at Woolworths Supermarkets and double Everyday Rewards points on all purchases at both Woolworths and BIG W. This assistance allows customers to potentially save up to $50 a month for an annual membership cost of $7.’
